On the Road...
Just a suggestion, but how about a 'Fast Food' section?
I'm a salesman and am always away. Would people submit BFL approved meals from various fast food chains? I know they all boil down to (pardon the pun) some form of grilled chicken breast on whole wheat, but still... Subway has the 6 inch grilled chicken breast sub on whole wheat. Tim Hortons in Canada. McDonalds? Have people got any favourite, widely available meals available on the road? |

Chic-fil-a grilled chicken sandwiches (no mayo) come in at around 300 calories and I think the proportions are BFL friendly.

Is that a McDonalds sandwich?
On the question of fast food, I'm guessing we're really all about variations of turkey and chicken. Oooh. What about tuna? Probably not huh, too much dressing and such. I saw another thread about suchi, I guess the nagri is the best type huh? Just plain meat over a small portion of (white, sigh) rice. |

Some sushi places have brown rice these days, but you definitely need to ask for it. Tuna salad has too much fat, you're right. I think subway is a decent choice. Go with whole wheat or the honey oat bread. The club has the highest protein on the low calorie menu.
Bean burritos from taco bell aren't the worst possible thing. A safe option at most places is a grilled chicken anything and a salad without dressing (oil and vinegar or some sort of vinaigrette) Too bad chikfila is only in the south. I'd like me some of that right now. Yum! Oh, but best to save the regular fried chicken and waffle fries for free day. Dressings are bad. Avoid any and all "secret sauces". Arby's Market fresh sandwiches are decent. |

Chic-fil-a is a chain that sells good chicken with some fairly healthy options and veggie based sides, or nifty waffle fries (and really good cheesecake, but this isn't the time or place to dwell on that). There's one on every other corner down here, so it's easy to forget they're not everywhere.
Just a regular McDonald's hamburger is just over 250 calories, so I think it would do in a pinch. The fat content is too high, but if it comes down to that or something else on the McDonald's menu... |

Subway 6" chicken breast on whole wheat, no cheese, no mayo, lots of veggies, plus mustard. Get the apples or the light yogurt instead of the chips, and throw in a Diet Coke for the combo. I usually get the footlong sub, eat half of it, and eat the other half for my next lunch or dinner.
I also like McDonald's classic grilled chicken sandwich, since it comes on a whole wheat bun. Skip the mayo, keep the lettuce and tomato. JaxAJ is right about Chick-Fil-A. I like their spicy chargrilled chicken sandwich, minus the pepperjack cheese (because it's not a lowfat cheese). Spicy foods actually give a slight spike to your metabolism, so if you can stomach spiciness, then go for it. Zaxby's has an awesome grilled chicken sandwich! |

I would prob stay away from Tim's for sandwiches, but gotta have the coffee.
I think the grilled chicken there is accually mechanically separated white chicken meat pressed into the shape of a chicken breast. The last one i had there looked like a sponge and kinda tasted like one too. I work in the oil patch and am on the road lots too, so i know what your going through. I would make friends w/ tuna pouches and fruit travel well. If staying in a hotel, make sure it has at least a fridge and microwave and you should be fine. Most grocery stores sell rotiserie chicken which is also quick and easy, just go easy on the skin. |
