Small Victory
At my job there is a job that a few of us go to during our lunch hour. Every month they have a challenge (Who can hold the plank or wall squat the longest, balance on the bosu, most jump rope reps for one min, etc). The August challenge was fastest mile and guess who won!? ME! I did it in 7:48 which is a huge accomplishment for me since I DESPISE running.
Just thought I would share! |

Thanks!
This month's challenge is most burpees in a minute. I need to start winning more often, it feels good :-) |

Good job!
Makes me want to go out and start running. I tried to get back into last year and I can't get over getting shin splints. Very painful. Doubt I'd ever get back to my glory days of running. I used to be able to run a 4 and a half minute mile.

It's probably a combination of your shoes and your stride. First get yourself some new kicks and then try taking a shorter stride. This made all the difference for me.

Chris I've tried everything. I went to a specialty running shop and was fitted and analyzed. I've got compression sleeves for shins and compression sleeves with ice built in for post runs. I think my biggest problem might be that because of my past(12 years of track and cross country) I tried to get back into it too fast. My body composition is much different now than when I was a runner and I need to ease my legs back into it. There is a couch to 5k program I started following and after a week of following it I decided I could handle taking on more and was quickly running probably far more than I should have. I may try again with the couch to 5k progam and see it through and see if that helps.

That's a good idea. I have some friends who did that. They race once a month now.
