The way I figure, if something is harder than your 10s then your 10s aren't always the same.
That is, if you hit a 10 biking and then do more than that on running, then you really hit an 11 on running. (Or you hit a 9 biking) |

I think everyone's body is different and so its not fair to say biking is easy and running is harder. There are runners that can run 10 miles but maybe cant swim 20 minutes. You can argue this forever but its not fair to say bike riders are not equal athletes to runners. I think the best thing to do is to alternate your cardio so that your body doesnt get used to one activity. I hate to ride a bike so for me it is quite a challenge, where I dont mind running as much. Sometimes biking makes my muscles more sore than running. My muscles that I use to run are in better overall shape than my muscles I use to bike. Just my 2 cents...

I look in the mirror every day and I like the progress I see. How about you? Body for life is NOT the gospel. Is it a good program? Yes. Do I recommend it to people? Yes. Do I think Bill Philips is the know it all master of all fitness programs? No. No one is. Don't knock me for what I choose and don't say what I do is any easier than what you do. It all depends on the effort you put into it. Sprints, pole to pole, 1 minute sprints, 2 minute sprints, sprint till you puke, you name it. It's all in the effort. You get out what you put in. I do what works for me, you do what works for you. Man, I have never knocked you for choosing to run over other forms of cardio. What pissed me off and got this started was the fact that you seem to thank that everything you say is pure fact. If you want to run instead of bike, by all means, do so. Whatever works for you. Just don't knock what I like to do and insult me for doing it. Hey, at least you got something to laugh about. I just haven't figured out what. And well, I don't really care anymore.

Be reasonable guys:
Running has so much more capacity for heart/lungs/metabolism than biking. I use the stationary bike when I feel too tired or sore to bust my butt on the treadmill/track, and part of that is probably due to the fact that I am sitting down - not necessarily that it's easier - I actually have a very hard time with getting my heart rate up on a bike. Understand that it demands more from your legs than it does from your heart/lungs. That's not really a bad thing, and there is a time for that...but when it comes to our metcon or resting heart rate you can't beat running. especially of the BFL variety I'm more inclined to be sore in my legs from a really ravaging bike ride, whereas if I do an intense run I can feel it the rest of the day in my lungs/heart rate...running also leaves my body needing more repair. We're training for metabolic conditioning. Despite the intentions of this post I have to admit that I had an insane bike ride this morning...I am still walking funny :P. My intention isn't to perpetuate an argument here, but rather to give some insight as to the "Best" form of cardio. I'm arguing running as a form of "cardiovascular" training, not muscular. |

But I'm not a guru on fat loss it seems. I am DEFINATELY not buit for running. One look at my pics and you can see why. Hypertrophy in the tibialis anterior, wide hips, very heavy build, some very heavy fat stuck on the build. Running destroyed my arches for a year and exacerbated my CECS. Two doctors have told me - I am not built for running. I am built for biking. No wonder then that I hate running and love biking. I wish I could enjoy running - it looks like so much fun. Maybe when I'm lighter and if I can get some orthotics for running in.
