No pulse rate? Keeps happening to me.

When I get my pulse really high and go for those 10s, my pulse rate stops displaying on the machine that I'm using. Once I drop it back a little, the pulse will come back displaying something around the mid 180s. At first I thought it was the machine, but it's happened two cardio trips in a row now, on different machines.

Should I be concerned or does this happen whenever you get over a typical range that these machines are made to measure?

Rather get a heart rate monitor if you can afford one, they are far more accurate anyways than the cardio machines.

Go for your standard spec heart rate monitor which measures your heartrate and calories burnt, thats all you really need, it also gives you heart rate averages for each workout and max heart rate etc, it really helps you train at the correct intensity 100% of the time! It worked for me, one of the best gifts I ever received! (Thanks Dad!)

I know you do get fancy GPS heart rate monitors that measure distance travelled etc, but they are quite pricey here in South Africa.

A basic HR monitor is a great purchase. Especially for the chest strap. My brand (Polar) is read by the machines at my gym. This is much more accurate than holding the sensors.

Amazon.com: Polar FS1 Heart Rate Monitor Watch (Dark Blue): Polar: Sports & Outdoors

I have 1 step up from this one, but can't find that model. This is a nice basic model.
