what's with all the new members and no posts?

Is this site getting spammed or what?

I see new members with scrambled up screen names appearing daily, but never any posts. Well I shouldn't say never, I'm relatively new and so is everyone else who's come after me... so hardly ever do we see these people (or robots) posting. What gives?

I noticed that too. Sometimes the names make sense, but most of the time they don't.

I think there is something strange going on since you mentioned it...For the time being,I have unsuscribed threads and canceled p/ms option..except from administrators...This forum did get spammed with a weird p/m some months ago..I can reinstate later,I guess..

All forums get spam signups as they get more popular, you can usually spot them by the xnxnshshye names and such. They're usually filling out the join form automatically, but because they don;t use a real email address they can't confirm their membership and post any junk.

Still, there's bound to be the odd one that will start slipping through the net eventually and post some crappy links, but we'll just delete and ban those as they appear.

I think some people just have strange screennames that only make sense to them. You would think if they were robots that they'd be spamming up the boards.

It's funny that this thread keeps resurfacing.. It was about these old members we used to get that never posted. Spam bots or something... Maljonic fixed some security issues and they went away... It wasn't directed at all you crazy name makers that actually post

Or it could be that someone is deleting all the spam posts and threads he finds then banning the people responsible?
