Myoplex Alternatives/No Myoplex?

hi, this is my first post.

I was wondering if anyone uses alternatives to Myoplex, i.e. Slim Fast shakes, etc? It seems to me that if you make a SF shake with a tablespoon of peanut butter and maybe some flaxseed oil that it will be just as beneficial as the myoplex without being so expensive.

Do any of you follow this program without using meal replacers? I can understand using them daily if you're really busy, but if you have time to make a snack, isn't that more cost effective?

Thanks,
Voivod

From what I've heard, Slim Fast shakes have too much sugar in them and their dense nutritional content really isn't up to par. I thought I read that here in this forum, but it may have been another BFL site. I'm sure someone else will chime in here...

I use the Myoplex shakes at least once a day. It's just easier sometimes and I even work from home. Lately, I really really enjoy cottage cheese/yogurt a handful of berries and a sprinkling of cinnamon.

Yeah, Slim Fast is sugar water. It's not much better than soda.

I recently had a ready-to-drink called "Lean Body" which was REALLY good. 40g of protein, 260 calories, and ZERO sugar. Couldn't believe it.

If you're looking to gain mass, Myoplex and other meal replacements help you get enough protein in a day. You're going to want to consume 1g of protein per pound you weigh in a given day, so having a meal with 42g of protein like a Myoplex helps take a big chunk out of that. The whey protein is especially beneficial post-workout, so make sure you're getting plenty of protein 30 minutes after lifting if you don't want to buy shakes.

Lately, I've been doing a scoop of protein mix (just bought a cannister of "Designer Whey" for $25, really not bad) with a little bit of vanilla yogurt and freezing it. A GREAT and tasty quick meal.

an alternative to myplex is quite simply whey protein and a piece of fruit.

a meal consists of a portein of protein and a portion of carbs. myplex gives u both of these. fruit is a carb and whey is protein so that makes a meal.

for my mid morning and mid afternoon snack i always have an apple or banana with a whey protein shake.

be careful with the fruit though cos i dont think all of it is a beneficial carb. strawberrys, orange, apple, banana are perfect but i think things like grapes contain mostly simple sugars as their carbs.

before i go to bed i always have grapes or bluberries but during the day i always sstcik to the propper fruits i just mentioned.

optimimum nutrition gold standard 100% whey is a great buy and is what i use. tastes great, is very good quality protein and very cheap. 80 servs - £40/$20. if u go on any bodybuilding forum lots of people rate ons 100% whey very highly

ideally idlove to have say 2 servs of myplex a day but its just too expensive

Thanks for the info.
I was looking at some different whey protein shakes at Whole Foods yesterday and I'm going to compare them to Myoplex, but it seems like they probably cost the same, so I would probably be better off trying the stuff you're talking about.
Thanks, Voivod

I'm not currently using myoplex but I am taking a protein shake, I was wondering though since they are kind of expensive and I'm a poor college student, is there a cheaper way to get protein in, for example is whey and fruit an equivalent substitute? or is there any cheaper alternatives? thanks!

Yep, whey and fruit is perfect! My protein is about 50 cents per serving.
