questions about post exercise neam and calories
hi I just started the Blf program on tuesday and things are going pretty good
I am taking it one day at at time i have been reading posts about what to eat after workout and i would to know more about this .. high gycemic carbs white bread philosophy.. i normally eat whole grains so i rather not start eating white foods...it tends to set me up on a addiction cycle with bad carbs anyway if someone can explain to me a good resaon it might help justify itthat might help. i have read posts about simple sugars i understand but i don't get IT lol i normally have a protein shake(isopure whey) with skim milk and blueberries after weights or 2 slices grain bread with cottage cheese or eggss should i change?? I thought whey protein was good after weights next question i have been a yo yo dieter for a long time and just beginning to really get the importance of eating more and having 6 meals and not depriving body i am on calorie king great program to count calories and i average 1400 a day.. i tell people and they tell me its too little listen i LOVE To eat .. but i am eating healthy and i am not any hungrier i just want to do this right i am trying to lose 20 pounds i have been trying to lost 20 pounds for a very long time used to do way too much cardio not enough weight training and i totally get you need to build muscle to burn fat.. i had a trainer for a year who shhowed me the basics but did nto believe i should be sore after a workout and she basically did the same routine over and over .. boring mentally and physically over the past 2 months i have acquired alot of book and tried different routines until i found this program which makes the most sense to me so i am not new to exercise or diet.. think i just did it the wrong way andgot caught up and scared to eat more cause i don't want to gain so what did i do deprive myself and then binge.. makes sense huhhh ![]() the mind can be very stubborn but im no quitter and i want to suceed so any info would be appreaciated ![]() thanks so much |

Hey,
Welcome to the page. A few things: My understanding is that if it's white, it ain't right. That goes for bread, pasta, rice, etc. A good post workout meal is something that will give your body a good boost to start the repairing process right away. A protein shake or yogurt with cottage cheese are excellent choices. I would say 1400 calories is a bit too low. Obviously the traditional weight loss strategy is eat less, exercise more, but the idea behind Body For Life is eating moderate portions often (balanced meals every six hours) to get your metabolism going. It will seem like you're eating a lot, but really you're just fueling your body. Bill Phillips specifically advises against counting calories while on your challenge! I love to eat too, so this works out great for me. I just finished Week 10 and I'm down 21 pounds. This program WORKS. Trust it. You can do the same if you stick to the fundamentals. Best of luck to you!

I dont believe you can just blatantly state that 1400 is too many or too few. It's dependant upon too many other factors. Generally, I like BW x 10 in calories to lose weight. If you exercise more than the BFL prescriptions, maybe bw x 12 is ok. But anything above that will make it difficult to cut pounds. I have a lady friend who is 155 pounds, and eating 1400 cals a day. She is sufficiently full, and still not losing weight. So much depends on metabolism speed, as well. if 1400 works for you, and you continue to lose weight, while not feeling run-down or overtrained, I say stick with it.
