How closely do you pay attention to the diet?
The BFL diet can be tricky sometimes. Things that I would tend to avoid often find themselves onto the approved list. My feeling is just b/c it's whole grain bread doesn't mean it's good for you.. (does it contain high fructose corn syrup?). I'm finding myself wanting to be better about planning my meals and eating according to the plan, but at the same time find it difficult to use the BFL website for solid suggestions.
What sorts of things do you guys consistently eat? What do you try to avoid? I printed off some champion meal plans to copy for a couple weeks... we'll see how it goes. Last edited by Chris; 10-31-2007 at 03:27 PM. Reason: forgot to say: |

I chose the bottom one as it fits me most closely at the moment. Having said that I just got the BFL book through the post today, having lost it years ago, and I'm going to reread it and reassess everything I'm eating, and some of the things I'm doing too no doubt.

Does anyone have Eating-for-LIFE? I'm curious about the recipes in it...
Sometimes I get really sick of all this balancing protein and carbs. For me, that's the most annoying part of the system. |

The main thing I avoid is SUGAR..it makes your blood sugar spike and you're hungry 2 hours later...artificially hungry because your blood sugar tanks..
The next things I avoid are white flour products..pasta..I love it but eat it about every two weeks..I also eat white rice about every two weeks.. One of these days I may eat a Krispy Kreme donut...I've never had one.. ![]() Edit:Chris slipped a post in while I was composing one...As far as balancing Macros in every meal (p,fat, carbs), I don't try.. You can average protein intake over a week's time,as well as fats, but not carbs..carb intake needs to be fairly consistent.. Last edited by gnash; 10-31-2007 at 04:19 PM. Reason: addition |

Chris
I have The EFL book.. I have only made desserts out of it for the cdn thanksgiving weekend. They were delicious. Many of the recipes look good. According to the gb though, you shouldnt eat out of there if you are doing bfl. I am going to go through it this weekend and try some new things. ![]() |

Really? That's interesting... I guess I assumed the EFL book was just food for the BFL program. That's really good to know, although it makes me curious what the point of it is?

They call it a maintenance program. I have heard the portions are too big and there are too many carbs. But if you eat smaller portions and carbs I am sure you will be okay.

I do have the EFL book and it made things more confusing for me. The recipes contain a lot of white flour products which I thought we shouldn't be eating. I make some of the breakfast cereals sometimes too. I think the BFL book leaves a lot out. It left me with a lot of questions.

I noticed that on the BFL site when they were celebrating the recipes from the convention (or whatever it was)... they didn't fit the program all that well from what I saw...
And yes, we are not supposed to be eating bleached white flour (avoid enriched too) we want whole grains. |

I know with a lot of the foods in efl i will substitute where i can with whole grains, whole wheat flour etc. I am also one that uses the glycemic index for fruits and veggies too that way i can enjoy the ones i like. A lot arent listed on the bfl site or in the book.

I was just thinking about this topic more and I realized that I justify things some times. I don't know that this is really that bad though. For example, we went on a field trip for my sons preschool and they had pizza, donuts, apple cider, and cookies. I skipped all of it when they were eating it. Then when we were leaving I realized it had been 3 hours since I had last eaten so I grabbed a small piece of pepperoni pizza. I justified it because it was time for me to eat and I counted the crust as a carb and the cheese and pepperoni as my protein. I left everything else alone. I felt like I was following the meal plan, but at the same time I felt sort of bad about it.

Roshanda You shouldnt feel bad about it. I would suggest next time to bring something along with you so you dont grab something else. You could also use that as your free meal. Sometimes life happens and we cant control it. As long as you didnt go overboard and got right back on track you should be fine.
