insomnia

how the f@ck do you beat this thing? im on my second week of bodyforlife and ive had to quit today cos its pointless when you cant sleep.

some nights i dont get even one minutes sleep, others i get about 1-2 hours. the most ive had this past 2 weeks is 5 hours (which isnt even enough as you need at least 7-8 hours) but thats only happend once

Hey Yakubu!

I suffer from terrible insomnia on a somewhat regular basis. Here is what I do:

Cut out all caffeine after noon.
No vigorous exercise after 3pm
Meditate before sleeping
Try a sleep CD (I like the hemi-sync one from the Monroe institute)
I take 5HTP (a precursor to serotonin, like melatonin) along with calcium, magnesium and valerian before bed (all help with sleep)
If I still can't sleep, I'll take GABA and Tyrosine along with the other supps.

If none of that works over the course of a few days, then I cave and take an ambien which is guaranteed to give me a great night's sleep and that will often break the cycle of insomnia.

I feel for you, man... insomnia is devastating. I'm in a cycle right now and I ended up taking an ambien last night after getting a grand total of about 4 hours sleep over the past six days. It's crazy.

Good luck!!

Ambien is a prescription sleep med. Zolpidem is the generic name. It's my last resort choice. The thing I like about it is that I use it rarely, it gives me a kick ass night of sleep and I don't feel "hung over" from it in the morning.

Hope that helps!

I have nasty insomnia off and on. One of the things I've been doing lately that has helped a lot is just listening to my mp3 player for a while when I go to bed... I think having some music to get absorbed in helps me shut up my over-active thought processes.

Yakubu, it may be your supplements. Try cutting them out by mid day and eating only whole foods near the end of your day. Also take your multivitamins earlier in the day. I'm usually asleep in minutes and sleep the whole night through... unless I take my multi too late, or my workout shakes at the wrong time.

Good point on the supps, Chris!

I know I can't take my multi at the end of the day or I'm jittery.

Yea don't take any fat burners too late in th evening, or you might pay for it.

well mu body for life challenge started yesterday and it happend yet again - didnt get to sleep until 4am. got up at 10pm so it was too late to do cardio on empty stomach. have to do cardio tonight instead which will burn about 300% less effective than if i did it this morning.

i think i know wot the problem is though. ive been taking this fat burner from maximuscle called thermobol and in the past i noticed that for the first 5 days it puts u on edge, u feel all shaky and as if u are on drugs. once the 5 days is up your body gets used to them and everything is back to normal. but getting throught he 5 days is torture so im scrapping them all together. im sticking to the cla instead.

hopefully ill get a good night sleep tonight seens as im not taking thermobol ever again
