Indoor aerobics without a machine.
Any suggestions on indoor aerobics exercises without a machine. I'm preparing for winter. The BFL book says, "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail."
I'm thinking of using step aerobics with "power moves" at the peak points of the workout. Anybody have any other suggestions? "Week 1, Day 2" - It's an adjustment making time for workouts and learning the moves and correct form for weight training. I figure I'll stumble more than once in the beggining. I'm allowing myself to do that without letting myself think I'm doing it wrong. I may not be perfect, but I can make progress.

It sounds a bit mad but, if you have them, running up and down the stairs a lot is pretty good exercise.

Edit: I recently read an article that said that running down stairs is as beneficial as running up..don't know why.. Last edited by gnash; 09-16-2007 at 08:31 PM. Reason: correction |

I can believe that. A few years ago when I was doing kung fu our teacher made us do these bunnyhop jump things for ages on this hard training weekend, the next day it hurt like hell to walk down stairs, but not at all going up - going down you use the muscles on the front of your legs more (the same ones for doing bunny hops), and going up you use the ones on the back.

Jumping jacks are good. You can also run in place. There are a lot of pillates (sp?) moves you can do rapidly and it will get your heart rate up. That's really the goal with cardio, getting your heart rate up.

All good suggestions. Where i live it usually rains virtually non-stop from November to February. Armed with a jump rope (I have very high ceilings) and a 10 story parking garage near my home I think I'll find something to get my heart pumping.
I also have a rowing machine, but it's kinda noisy and I want to respect my neighbors at 6:00 in the morning.
