Getting married and needing some help!

Hi all,

Thanks for taking the time out and reading my thread!

I am getting married in 9 1/2 weeks and have been doing the body for life for 2 weeks, but I am having a really hard time eating potato's, pasta and rice, I have been eating veggies instead. I have also quit smoking now for 4 mths, and am finding it a bit harder to shed off my baggage.

I might have the atkins diet inculcated in my brain and just can't shake it.
Any advice on this would be appreciated.

My one right calf has been painful for the last 4 days, today it is feeling better, can I work it out today?

-Michelle

Hi Michelle.

I just replied to your blog post, check it out.

This program goes about losing body fat in a totally different manner than Atkins. The Atkins plan does work, but it's not a long term plan. If you want to get and stay in the best shape of your life, then it requires eating some carbs.
You don't have to eat potatoes and pasta though. Sweet potatoes, winter squash, brown rice, oatmeal, whole wheat breads, these are all good carb choices. They are slow digesting and require energy to process. This energy (along with the energy to live) comes from stored body fat if you're eating properly, or it will come from muscle tissue if you are not. Part of what makes BFL work is tricking your body into thinking all its needs are met, so then you stop holding on to your stored reserve (body fat).

The pain in your leg... Is it sore muscles or an injury? It's probably safe to workout on it as long as it isn't hurting you. If you feel pain while exercising, stop, go see your doctor about it.

Good luck in your challenge. I can tell you from experience that a wedding makes for an excellent source of motivation. Try to get your husband-to-be involved in the challenge too. My wife and I are workout partners. It's been fantastic for our relationship. All the best to you both!

Thank you Chris

I did buy some low fat cottage cheese and low fat/sugarless yogurt, maybe I can start off with that for breakfast!
This is going to be so hard for me as I am used to eating any meat with oils and butter and cream in my coffee, in which I love so much *ugh* Do you think that I could make some progress in 9 1/2 weeks? I have been working out now for 2 weeks, and to be honest, give and take on the diet a bit.

Yes, we are getting excited about our wedding, we are marrying in Jamaica with our families there by our side, it is our second time around, so we thought that this would be quite pleasant and everyone is excited about it.

I think that it's wonderful that your wife and you are in this together!
My husband-to-be whose hobby is gourmet cooking at home isn't helping me much in my battle to eat right. Everything that he makes is so incredibly delicious!

You can definitely make progress in this amount of time! But you're going to need to be strict with the diet. There is more room to slack when you don't have a short term goal.

The gourmet cook should be able to make some healthy contributions to your diet. I'm sure he'll find amazing ways to put some pizazz in your chicken breasts. Talk with him about the things you want/need to eat and let him help make them delicious. It can be a team effort, and will be a good challenge for him too.

eat someting!!!

what do you wake up at 10:30?

the one thing that jumps out is that you aren't eating enough at all. I count maybe 700 calories by 4:30 and what is a "beef stick?" Is that a slimjim kind of thing?

My guess is that you are getting nervous about looking fantastic in your dress on your big day and you think that by schredding calories you will get skinny in time. It wont work. Especially if you are following this program, you need to put some gas in the tank. Follow the diet as it is layed out in the book; remember, a meal isn't a sit down at the dinner table type of meal. eat every three hours, a portion of carbs, a portion of protien and some veggies most of the time. Drink a few shakes a day and you are there. Keep that up along with the excercise and in about a month you will see fat just about melt off yourself.

congrats on getting married, as a happily married fella I can tell you that being married is much better than being engaged.

good job quitting, too. that was one of the hardest things I ever did.

HI Tommy,

No, I don't wake up at 10:30 *lol* that would be amazing if I could do that though!
I am just so busy with kids in the morning that it has me crazy, but remember, I just started this, I had to change all my eating ways and about the days food intake, I never wrote the rest down that day, I didn't have time to make it back to the computer.

I have it all down pat I think now and am well on my way to success. I have been exercising now for 3 weeks and see a difference, I just had to change my eating habits, this has been really hard for me but I feel so much better now that i did.

Thank you so much for reading my thread and taking the time out to respond, I am going out to buy my shakes today, can't wait.

It definately takes some getting used to, but once you get the hang of it, it becomes pretty habitual. The shakes help a ton! Best of luck to you. How many kiddies do you have?

kids and working out!

We have three Timmy...one is my husband to be's daughter, she is 10 and I have a 10 year old and we have a toddler together, in which is hard to lift weights or do cardio with her around! *lol* I had to ride my bike the other day with her in my arms, it was another challenge on it's own.

I just bought a new bench today, my shakes and some more weights, yeah!
I'll keep ya posted on my progress
Thanks for the encouragement!

awesome! our 5th is on the way. It is definately a challenge to keep up the workouts and be a good daddy at the same time, but it can be done. Usually not when the sun is up, but it can be done. Good luck.
