I just found this site today, after having no success getting into the Body For Life Tracker site--something seems to be wrong with it. Yesterday I couldnt' get there at all, today I can't register due to some sort of site error. Anyway, I did a google search for Body For Life forums, and here I am!

A little bit about me:

I'm almost 39 years old and I am about 5'9"-5'10", and weigh 210lbs give or take about 3lbs depending on scale or day. Talking with trainers over the years (yes, I've tried to get in shape before!) I have consistently been told that I should weigh around 185-190 as a fit guy with good lean muscle mass (not bodybuilder physique, but like the cover models of Men's Health). Of course this is an ideal and I've no idea how realistic that is for me.

I've been in and out of gyms for 10 years or so, and have never stuck with a program for very long. I want to change that. Although doctors have not as of yet found any problems with me internally, I know I have a certain risk factor for vascular disease by virtue of the fact my father died of a stroke in his early forties. Guess what folks, I'm getting close to that time frame!

My current lifestyle:

I like beer. Not just any beer, but GOOD beer, and I live in a town with some well known regional breweries. Yes, I know there's lots of calories in that stuff, and I know it's going to have to be greatly curtailed. A few months ago I did a 30-day moratorium on alcohol just to see if I was developing any kind of dependance on it. There were a couple days where I thought, "man I would love a beer right now", but otherwise there were no issues.

My job is active, but not challenging cardiovascularly-speaking. I've been taking lunches and avoiding fast food for the past couple months, and I lost about 4lbs.

My goals:

I plan to enter the first BODY FOR LIFE challenge of 2009. It's too late for me to enter in 08. Besides, I want to spend the next few weeks easing into using weights and working into the routine, working on form, etc. so that I don't injure myself. I remember reading that Porter Freeman did a "pre-challenge" program just to get himself ready for the main challenge.

My goals for the challenge aren't set in stone just yet, as I want to wait until I've almost completed my "pre-challenge" program before I look at specifics. One thing I DO know, I want to drop a couple waist sizes. I'm currently a 38 and would like to at least get down to a 36. Yes, most of my flab gathers around my belly. Probably has a lot to do with beer.

Anyhow, that's my story. Thanks for listening!

Welcome! I'm in Seattle myself!

If you are of Norwegian, Finnish, or Japanese extraction, I can not endorse eating fish as your primary protein source enough. It changed my life. See my introduction thread. I had triglycerides around 900+ and high cholesterol at my early 20s. After I got into fish I have never had a problem again with cholesterol.

If you are interested or have any questions about a fish heavy diet - I'm here to help!

When I lived in Woodinville near the Redhook brewary I took a severe health nose-dive. The way I tried to offset this was that if I wanted to go have some brews, I had to walk a mile or more to it. Burke Gillman trail was a great friend to me.

Good luck!
