I feel gross... still.

Alright here is a run down of myself.

I used to be in good shape in highschool, towards the end i did a lot of substance abuse and got extremely skinny, coming off the drugs i gained 75-100 lbs of pure fat from sitting on my butt all day.

Long story short i got really motovated last summer when i saw these beautiful woman and knew i wanted to look like that again, of course I am a guy i just wanted to be in good shape again. I worked off the 75 lbs but still am 60+ lbs over weight. I worked out 2 times a day for 6 months and ate very well to anyone's standards. My sister in law got me the book and i read it, i was so pumped again but xmas hit and other holidays and just threw a wrentch into the works. I lost all motovation.

Anyways here is my problem, A lot of people told me that i will never get back to were i want to be without steroids or going to fat camp. Which is really discouraging to me and made me want to just stop working out and staying in my home again for years on end.

I guess the Question's im avoiding are the following:

1) I lost the weight doing it my way in 6 months, but the book says to only workout X amount for Y amount of time with High intensity... But i need more i feel however it says i shouldnt do more.... I want to do more, I can do more, I have the personal desire to, But if i dont do it by the book i wont get those results? I mean honestly I have ran myself till ive passed out, I dont give up but i feel like I am half ass'ing it if i dont go to the gym for 2-3 hours daily. Is it ok to do cardio on those days aswell to speed the program up. I know not to weight lift every day but i feel like if i was to do more cardio it would go so much better, but i dont want to contradict what the book says.

Idk i figured i would just rant here and see if anyone could lift my spirits, it sucks it really does, not to be a negitive nacy but not seeing the results is hard, the scale says different but the mirror says all the fat is still there...

Hi... your frustrations are totally understandable. I'm going back and forth on what advice to give you... On one hand, BFL is a great program as written. It works best when you surrender EVERYTHING you think you know about fitness and commit to it. It's a pretty intense program for most folks. Sure you can work out harder and perhaps more often, but it's not necessary for most folks. But on the other hand, you seem to suggest that you have done a lot of conditioning and are already in pretty good shape, just not to your ideal body shape.... that's almost always due to diet. I might recommend a more aggressive diet plan for you. Something where you track your calories. check out burn the fat feed the muscle (google it). It's a pretty good read and it definitely helped me understand BFL a bit better too.

If you want to do some extra cardio, that's fine. But don't do it at the expense of your muscles. Too much running around will inhibit muscle growth, and muscle mass is your biggest ally in losing that body fat.

Lastly, be patient. You didn't put that weight on in 6 months, and it will take longer than that to get it off of you. It sounds like you've made some great progress... keep it up!
