How often do you change your exercises?

This question could also be asked for upper body as well.

If you do lower body twice in a week, do you do the same exercises each time? Or do you change the whole shebang? Part of it?

I'm curious as I'm always one for mixing stuff up and being very flexible depending on my mood

Thanks!

Lo

I change my excercises every 6 weeks. If I change them more often then that, I waste too much time trying to figure out what weight to use. Of course, if an excercise isn't working for you, by all means change it.

I've been following an alternate program for a while and it's setup to switch the exercises each time, but it repeats the forms to use every 3 weeks or so. To keep the muscles guessing.

MY advice would be to do whatever keeps you interested. If you like to stick to the same routine, do it for 4-6 weeks and then make yourself try something else... but if the idea of that sounds ridiculously boring (as it would to my wife and I) then change it up as often as you need.

Probably the most "ideal" switch is about every 4 weeks...

Coolio Thanks for the replies. I think I'll try the 4 weeks switch. I did upper body today and couldn't believe how much strength I've lost Oh well, we all start somewhere, right? One foot in front of the other... one more rep.

My BFL buddy and i tried the same exercises for first 4 weeks, got pretty boring so now we are gonna switch it up every 2 weeks to keep the muscles guessing. Hope it works.

I like to switch it up - but I also like to see the specific gains on exercise sets... so on the weeks of one upper body workout - I change it every 4 weeks... and then go back to the same ones... and still seeing some progress.

my cardio is way ramped up right now... so i'm doing everything i can not to lose weight. 9 more weeks to Ironman Louisville... almost a job at this point.

Switching Routines

I switch it up about every 4-6 weeks. As soon as your not making gains after you've been doing a certain routine for a while, you know it's time to switch things up.
