Abs question

I've decided to do the BFL routine but had already been going to the gym for 12 weeks doing other various programs and already lost a stone.

I had been increasing the number of abs gradually and was doing 100-150 crunches and less for the obligues and could really feel it when I did these. Not everyday as you are supposed to rest the abs like any other muscle.

So today when I did my first lower body routine I just felt that doing 12, 10, 8, 6, 12 and 12 again wasn't really working my abs as hard.

How are you supposed to increase the intensity with abs?
Is it OK to carry on with my usual routine for abs?

Cheers

I think there's lots of differing opinions on this. It's easy for your abs to get used to the exercise so that's you're able to do hundreds of crunches, so I sometimes wonder if I can do like 200 of them if they're really doing much good. Or, if it would be better to use more resistance/weights to make it harder - either by using a machine at the gym or by holding a weight on your chest, usining heavier weights if it gets too easy.

Thanks for your reply. I could try a weight and I'd forgotten that there was an abs machine in the gym so I could try that as well.

try doing crunches on a stability ball...try like 20-20-20-20-20 ouch it is a deep burn....also add in a medicine ball and u'll be on ur way...try doing planks too these are great for core muscles too...plank/bridge for 30secs, 1min, 30secs,1min and take breaks in between...if u dont know what that exercise is google it

Hi there

Yes must admit the stability ball is good, I was using that in previous weeks before the BFL. Bit limited to what they have at the 'hotel' gym but I could get a medicine ball for home. I often do a plank at the end of my ab work but I could try and increase the time and do a few more.

I can always feel it in my abs so must be doing some good lol

Cheers
