Skipping workout!

Errrr. I have a darn cold and I've decided to skip my workout. So that I don't worsen the cold symptoms. I've been doing so well. Missing one isn't really that bad I know.

What have you guys done when you've missed a workout, for instance my lower body workout. Did you guys just forget about it? Or did you try to fit it in some other day?

i'd just do the workout in spite of ur cold.

ive got a tite chest, blocked nose, headache, aching limbs and everything at the moment but i did my lower body workout this morining (cud hardly breathe after the squats). it was painful but its only 45 minutes and once its over ur glad u did it.

at the end of the 12 weeks if u looked back im sure ud be proud and glad that u did it inspite of ur cold cos this programme is all about honouring self promise and finishing wot u start

but if u really gonna miss it yeh id just fit it in another day maybe on my free day

I think it's good to rest if you really need it. What I do is I just do a double workout the next day. If you do cardio tomorrow in the morning, do your lower body workout at night. Or you can do both, weights first then cardio.

Hope you feel better!

Definitely don't "kill" yourself. Your body can benefit from the day of recovery/rest. I am just getting over brochiolitis and sinusitis and I did weights today for the first time since last Wednesday. I was glad to be back but I am still not 100% and I could tell. I am glad I didn't try anytime sooner than today. I may have hurt myself! You can try what Doodlebug said about doubling up on your workout tomorrow if possible. Don't sweat it (literally!)

i'd say write off the day and relax and get better. You might aggrevate your cold more and that would prolong you not working out to your fullest.

1 day is not going to set you off. You can replace your free day if you REALLY wanted to - or do as Doodle the cutey bug said.. put it in one day!

Actually I was thinking about that. And it's probably what I'm going to do. I'd prefer not missing out a workout and waiting until monday to do my lower body. So thanks for the suggestion.

Here is the rule of thumb for working out with illness: If it's above the neck, go ahead and work out. If it's below, then take the NECESSARY time to recover before going back to work out.

Cool rule of thumb! Makes sense.

I've also heard that excercising while being ill can seriously damage your heart. So I'm careful when it comes to that.

Maybe consult a doctor if you're not sure. I'ts not worth risking your health for a day or 2 that you can anyway catch up at a later stage.

Hi All,

I am new in the forum. I am in Week 9 right now and completed my first BFL a couple of years ago also.

Personally, if I have to miss a workout for any reason I simply just relax, (as Sunshine suggested,) and just pick it up the next day with whatever is scheduled for the next day. I don't backtrack or double up. I let it go.

The first time I went through BFL I missed a few workouts throughout the program and would try do double up or something. It would suddenly throw me out of whack, mentally and physically.

This time around I have missed only 2 days in the 8 weeks.

Hey EvertoExcel. Thanks for the advice.

So today I did my cardio which was really hard, because I still felt like crap from my cold. But I also did my lower body at 5:00 and it was pretty awesome.

Anyways, I hope I stay illness free for the rest of the challenge. Which should keep me on track.

I don't ever double my workouts (with the exception of the occasional cardio on weight day). IMO it's pointless. You'll be so far down the endurance scale that it's almost ineffective = waste of time. If you're concerned about the missed body part, do that instead of cardio on the next day and then resume schedule. I've often substituted the missed workout into my freeday. Or, I just say F'it and pick it up next time. Your muscles need occasional breaks anyway. No big deal.

F* it, I agree!

I missed 2 work-outs last week and almost killed myself because of it. Monday I tried to catch up by doing both upper and lower body. I felt so sick I almost pewked.

Yesterday my body was so tired that I didn't even go to the gym. I totally overdid it on Monday and that caused me not to want to go yesterday.

And I remembered what you said Chris..."F* it!
It's not the end of the world if you skip a work-out. Sh*t happens. Get over it and go on with your life is what I say. By burning out your body, you won't finish the challenge in any way.

I saw that statona mentioned in one of the links he attached to his profile that you should give your body a 1 week break once a month. And I've just completed my 1st month. This is starting to look all more appealing now.
Eventhough I won't do it, but I needed a break. Even if it was only a day or two. Now I feel mentally and physically strong enough again to keep going.

What do the rest of you think??

I just saw this on the BFL website. How appropriate!!!

If you miss a workout, you missed it. We all make mistakes when challenging ourselves. Just get back on track the next day and create a back-up plan to keep you from missing another one.

If my asthma isn't aggravated by the cold/infection I suck it up and do the workouts. I might skip cardio if I have to skip anything, but I won't skip LBWO or UBWO.
