Pretty much what I was about to say: Can't you just have more whey? Rhone beat me to it.

I have 2 scoops whey post workout, along with 2 T Gatorade powder. I then eat a whole food meal about 45 minutes later.

And YES, fruit is absolutely a carb!

Chris nailed it, fruit absolutely is a carb. Fruit contains sugars. While some fruits have a relatively low GI, they still contain sugars, they're carbs. Besides, I'm reading the book (again) right now , and fruit is listed under the carbs sections. That's also the reason fruit is a no-no on low carbs diets.

If you're referring to the common "5-a-day" recommendation, that's for a combination of fruits and veggies... so 3 servings of veggies and 2 servings of fruit, or 3 servings of fruit and 2 servings of veggies, would fit if you're trying to follow that.
