EAS vs USN
Hi everybody,
I'm having a hard time getting EAS shakes in SA. Apparently they're not supplying anymore and if I do get it's more than DOUBLE the price (R600 for 20 servings!) They guys at the stores say that USN is better in any case, but I'm a bit sceptical. Do any of you know if USN will be just as good...??

I can't comment specifically on USN, but I can say that EAS is nothing special. If USN is a reputable supplement company their products should be on par with everyone else (this includes EAS). I guess it depends on what your specific needs are, but I'm comfortable recommending any reputable brands products. Basically whey is whey.

You could check out the ingredients to see if they are the same/similar. Or you could order the regular EAS ones from Amazon.com or somewhere and see if it works out cheaper or not.

They guys at the supplement section say that EAS has not changed their formulation in 10 years and that it's a bad thing because they're not improving their product.
I just thought that maybe they got it right the first time around ![]()

You're probably right, some people will tell you any old shit to get you to buy stuff... if it was a TV or computer then definitely you they should update it, but I don't see why a food has to be updated to make it good.
Still, like Chris says, I don't think there's anything uber special about the EAS shakes that can't be found in other brands, but I don't think there's anything wrong with them either. Anyway I think there are different versions of EAS shakes, like the lite version and the original version, and there must be different flavours or something that weren't there all along. If you're unsure just get both and compare them, see which you like best. How much do the ones they're trying to sell you cost?

USN is almost half the price of EAS.
I use the Myoplex Lite shakes. I'll just have to take the containers and compare ingredients. Thats all.

the fact is that there is a hell of a lot of sh!t on the market, a hell of a lot and ive used some of it myself. even with creatine monohydrate you have to be carefull. it would seem that it would be ok to buy creatine from any compnay cos the ingredients are basically all just pure creatine. but this isnt the case, you even have to choose wisely when buying creatine never mind whey |

Yes I still believe that. You can tell when you get a "bad" one. It doesn't mix well and tastes poor.. those are easy to spot.
To say that you should only buy expensive supplements is a nod to those company's marketing programs. You buy into their idea. That's fine, it's what they want you to think. And, if you feel good about purchasing them, then by all means by the expensive stuff. But it isn't going to make you look like their ads suggest either. I'm perfectly happy with my budget whey.

some whey only contains about 17g a scoup, its has hardly any nutrients in it, it doesnt contain ingredients that allow the whey to be absorbed properly, its got a lot more fat in it that good whey products, it doesnt mix well or digest well and it tastes like crap.
buy with caution. this doesnt mean buy an expensive one. i like maximuscle but its too expensive for me so i dont buy it. eas whey is the best price ont he market. i however use optimal nutritions whey. its cheap and quality. ive used body fortress in the past cos its cheap but the stuff is garbage , end of story |

I guess the way I should have phrased this is more on the order of: I'm a bargain shopper plain and simple. I will almost always buy the generic or store brand instead of the marketed brand. I've found no difference in many products, things like: bleach, salsa, ketchup, plastic baggies, beans, apple juice, etc. There are exceptions to this rule though... I never buy budget laundry soap or dish washing detergent. I used to, but I'm sick of having to run my dishwasher or my clothes a second time because the soap didn't take out the grime.
With regards to supplements, I've personally found no difference between the brands that I've tried. Well that's not entirely true, I don't buy anything from 6star or muscle tech (and one of these is even a premium brand), because I was unhappy with past purchases. Other than that, in my experience, I've found no difference between the different whey proteins other than taste. They all give me protein, they all fuel my muscles, and they all fit my budget (the ones I buy anyway). In my mind when it all comes down to it, it's the budget shopper in me wanting to buy the store brand instead of the marketed brand. This doesn't mean YOUshould buy the store brand... perhaps you've found the same satisfaction in your myoplex that I've found in my tide. I totally understand that... and in this case, for you, "whey is NOT whey" just like "laundry soap is NOT laundry soap" for me.

Hi,
I also had the same problem, I spend nearly R700 on EAS myoplex and I couldnt really afford to buy it again and the supplement consultant recommended USN. So for the last 2/3 of my BFL programme I used the USN Protein Plex MRP instead of EAS. The main difference was the taste, the USN was good but nothing can beat Myoplex. I reckon the USN is not as good as the EAS but its definitely not worth paying nearly double for the EAS, if you have the money to spare then take Myoplex, but if not USN is definitely not a second grade product and is a good replacement. I took it for most of my diet and I loved it |

I also like Muscle Milk. If you check the nutrition data, it's similar in composition to Myoplex Original (if you use two scoops of muscle milk) and in my opinion it tastes much better. It's also a bit cheaper. I do not recommend the muscle milk ready to drinks, however, as I've gotten a few batches that, while technically still good by expiration date, they separated out in the container, and I ended up having to blend them anyway just to make them edible.
I'll probably continue to use both Muscle Milk AND Myoplex, however, as I like the variety. Quote:
